Antique-Style Scottish Pipes
These pipes have the style of the older pipes that preceded the modern ones; they are ideal for use in civil war reenactments or similar historical events, or for anyone who simply likes their looks.
The pipes shown at left are the antique-style bagpipes by Mid-East.
Chalice refers to the shape of the ends of the drones; the pipes are smooth, without the
series of circular ridges on modern pipes that are called combing.
These antique-style pipes have fittings of mock ivory and brass, black velvet bag cover with ivory trim, and ivory cords. Hide bag. These pipes are a very good buy for the price, and look nice as well.
They are the same as modern pipes in their scale and in how they play. The two sizes of the antique-style pipes are the same as those of the modern-style pipes.
Our pipes are kept here in stock and are carefully checked over by an experienced musician before they are sent out to you. (They are not drop shipped, uninspected, from a wholesaler.)
Available in two sizes:
BAGANT1. Fullsize, natural rosewood, chalice, black velvet bag cover, ivory fringe and cords. Fullsize pipes have a bass drone length of 33" when adjusted to shortest length. Includes two sets of reeds, bottle of sealer (seasoning), rubber stoppers, hank of hemp thread for joints and a chunk of beeswax (for keeping the hemp in place). $185. In stock.
BAGANT2. Halfsize, natural rosewood, chalice. Bass drone length is 29" when adjusted to shortest length; the chanter hole spacing is the same as on fullsize pipes. Includes two sets of reeds, bottle of sealer (seasoning), rubber stoppers, hank of hemp thread for joints and a chunk of beeswax (for keeping the hemp in place). Please note that half-size pipes (also called session pipes) look more like 7/8-size pipes, and are ideal for young people or small-sized adults who find the fullsized pipes a bit large. $165. Not available before May.
