Harps by Triplett
Nylon-Strung Triplett Harps
These fine harps are made in California by a well-established firm that consistently produces professional instruments of very good sound and fine craftsmanship. If you are looking for a really good instrument, the Triplett name will come up early in the discussion of what folk harp to buy.
All Triplett harps are offered in four woods; cherry, walnut, maple and bubinga. Other woods may be available by special order.
Carrying cases for Triplett Harps are made by the casemaking branch of the firm, VBC. These are high-quality, fleece-lined cases with a roomy side pocket, carrying handles, plus removable shoulder strap; this is a case which will protect your harp well when you need to travel with it. This case is available with built-in wheels for moving the harp; a kit for fitting wheels to a regular case is also available. (See photo of case and wheels below.)
The various nylon-strung harps made by Triplett are shown below on this page.
Note that Triplett have recently gone to all Camac levers on their harps. The prices shown are for the cheaper Loveland levers, and their current harp prices are slightly higher. We will adjust these prices shortly.

Eclipse Model Harp

Eclipse :
This large nylon-strung model shown in cherry at left replaced the 38-string Premiere ,
which Triplett has offered for some years. It looks like the 36-string Signature,
but is larger; it also has the staved back as a standard feature. The larger soundbox
gives this harp a great sound.
Specs: About 60" high, about 28 lb, 38 nylon and
composite strings, bottom note A (two octaves plus two notes below middle C) up to C, over
five octaves in all.
Price: $5295. This includes full Loveland
levers, VBC fleece-lined case and deluxe tuning key.
Signature Model Harp
Signature
(shown at left in natural bird's-eye maple): This harp is the culmination of twelve years
of development in harp design by Triplett Harps, who believe that they have
incorporated the best features of their designs in this model. The result is a harp
unmatched in tone and beauty. The staved-back soundbox (see below) is standard on this
harp. Other details of the workmanship include soundboard binding (strips of wood along
the two long edges of the soundboard) of contrasting wood as a finishing touch.
Specs: 56" high, 26 lb, soundboard width 15 1/2",
36 nylon and composite strings, range of five full octaves (from two octaves below middle
C).
Price: $4995. This includes full Loveland levers,
VBC fleece-lined case and deluxe tuning key.
Celtic II Model Harp
Celtic II : This is a pretty harp with decorative soundboard binding and a
very good sound, and has been a best-selling size.
Specs: 54" high, 25 lb, 34 nylon and composite strings
(bottom note is C, two octaves below middle C, up to A), almost five octaves.
Price: (with standard flat back) $3995, (with staved
back) $4395. Price includes fleece-lined VBC case and full Loveland levers.
Axline Model Harp

Axline : This nicely shaped 30-string harp is
ideal for the harp player who wants a professional harp with really good sound and a
reasonable playing range, but that is not too large to carry around. It is shown at
left in cherry.
Specs: 48" high, 20 lb, 30 nylon and composite
strings (from G 1 1/2 octaves below middle C up to A,) just over four octaves.
List price: $3395 This includes VBC fleece-lined
carrying case, full Loveland levers, and deluxe tuning key.
Zephyr Model Harp

Zephyr: 22-string travel harp, with a surprisingly good
sound for its small size. This harp was originally designed to fit into the upper
compartment of an airplane.
Specs: Height 28", weight 4.5 lb, range C up to C (3 octaves).
Price with full blade levers and case: $1228
Price with full flip levers and case: $1272
The Staved Back: What Is It?
The Eclipse at left above is shown from the rear to highlight the staved-back construction. Rather than the standard three-piece soundbox, which consists of two side pieces and one flat back piece of wood, the staved-back soundbox has five pieces of wood. This gives a better sound; also the soundbox has a narrower flat piece of wood at center back where the harp rests on the shoulder, and gives the box a semi-rounded appearance. This also makes it easier for your arm to reach around the box.
The staved-back soundbox is an option that is available on the Catalina and Celtic II models as well as being standard on the Signature and Eclipse.
Levers
Loveland levers: For those not familiar with Loveland levers, these have a black plastic handle. They are well known in the harp world and are used by various harpmakers.
Celtic
blade levers: These are bronze blades that turn (see photo at left); they have a
beautiful raised Celtic design on them. Triplett puts them on their wire-strung harps as
well as the McCall and Zephyr nylon-strung models.
Tuning Keys
All Triplett
harps come with a lovely key shaped to fit in your hand, made of the same wood as your
harp. There is a beautiful raised highlighted Celtic knot design carved onto it. Extra
tuning keys can be purchased separately at $39 each for the Celtic carved model, $29 for
the plain.
Victorian Carving
You can get the full-size Triplett nylon harps decorated with
floral Victorian carving done by master carver Hector J. Bezanis of San Francisco (see
picture). This carving must be ordered at the time the harp is ordered, as this cannot be
done on harps already made. There will be a 6- to 8-month waiting period for this option,
and no cancellations will be accepted. Cost: $2,000 extra.
Wheel Accessory for Triplett Cases

This is a pair of wheels attached to your harp case, so that you can pull your Triplett harp along without having to buy a separate harp cart (one of the best ideas we've seen come along for awhile). Any Triplett case can be ordered with the wheel accessory on it. Price: $125 extra.
If you already have a regular Triplett case without the wheels, it isn't too late. You can order the wheel accessory retrofit kit that is made to attach to your current case. Price: $150
Listing of harps currently for sale on the floor here at The Harp and Dragon.
Note: The Triplett warranty on new harps is seven years. This will apply to the new
models; harps made before 2002 will have five-year warranties.
A curved tuning key in the same wood as your harp, with a raised carved Celtic design,
comes with all harps that have the deluxe tuning key included in the price. On other
harps, the curved tuning key is plain.
Shipping costs: floor-style harps travel via truck to any residence in the United States
for $175. Lap harps travel via UPS ground for $40. If you wish your harp to travel by
other means, this can be arranged.
There is no extra crating charge.
